We want to provide an update to the ransomware attack we experienced last fall. After a thorough forensic investigation and a labor-intensive review, we have determined that certain files containing personal information were accessed by an unauthorized actor. The forensic investigation was conducted by a third-party expert and took several months to complete.
We understand that this news may be concerning. We deeply regret any concern this may cause. We take the privacy and security of our students, staff and families very seriously.
In response to this incident, we are offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services to anyone in our Highline community who opts in. We appreciate your patience and support as we worked diligently to understand the scope of this incident.
To further protect against similar incidents moving forward, we are implementing additional security measures including but not limited to:
- Upgrading our systems to detect and respond to security threats more quickly.
- Tracking all devices in one place for faster and more comprehensive protection.
- Adding tools to detect and block suspicious logins or access instantly.
